Bryan Mbeumo Would Be A Dream Manchester United Signing

Manchester United’s season is slowly coming to a close and with that comes a wave of transfer rumours, speculation, and leaks. It’s always an important summer transfer window for the club, but with United languishing in the lower half of the Premier League, the stakes feel even higher. If results don’t go their way, they could find themselves finishing as low as 17th.

In light of this uncertainty, we caught up with the straight-talking Paul Parker to discuss the future of Mason Mount, who has recently returned from another injury to contribute in the closing stages of the season, as well as reflect on a potential new signing.

Injuries and a Lack of Impact

Mason Mount’s Manchester United career has been plagued by injuries since his £55 million move from Chelsea in 2023. Those persistent setbacks have disrupted any momentum he hoped to build, casting doubt on both his long-term role at Old Trafford and his prospects of returning to the England squad—particularly now that his former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has taken charge of the national team.

Despite reported support from new manager Ruben Amorim, Parker remains unconvinced. He doesn’t believe Mount possesses the qualities required to thrive in a side like United's.

"I’ve said it before, but I just can't ever see him having a key role at Manchester United," Parker told us. "He has no standout qualities and now we’re really seeing why Chelsea were happy to let him go."

Mount Needs To Find A New Club

Mount has featured recently—largely due to injuries and squad rotation—but Parker argues that he’s yet to offer any consistent value. “He's played a bit because other players have been rested and yes, he’s scored, but I haven’t seen anything more from him. He’s clearly one of those players who would benefit from finding a new club."

Often described as a jack-of-all-trades, Mount does most things to a good level but doesn’t seem to have a defining trait and Parker believes that this lack of identity is Mount’s biggest problem.

"I think he needs to figure out who he is as a footballer. What is his identity? He has no identity. Nobody knows what he's actually good at and I don't even think he knows himself. He looks like a lost boy out there, so first and foremost he needs to find his identity. Otherwise, he won't succeed at a new club either."

Mbeumo A Dream Signing For United

In contrast, one player who operates in a similar part of the pitch but has made headlines for all the right reasons this season is Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo. The Cameroonian has enjoyed a standout Premier League campaign, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists across 36 appearances. Mbeumo has stepped up remarkably, especially since Ivan Toney's departure, and has reportedly attracted interest from bigger clubs.

“Mbeumo has been absolutely unbelievable,” Parker said. “He has had a completely absurd season, and he has only improved since Ivan Toney left the club. What he has done for Brentford is incredible."

Parker was also quick to praise Brentford manager Thomas Frank, crediting him with getting the very best out of his players.

“He owes a lot to Thomas Frank. This is yet another example of why Thomas Frank is one of the best managers in the world, because he gets the best out of his players. He is outstanding."

But Will Mbeumo Want the Move?

As for Mbeumo potentially making the move to Old Trafford, Parker is all for it.

“He would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United. A magical signing, because he would be a massive step up from the other players.”

However, he also acknowledged the appeal of staying at Brentford. “He would be a dream signing. But does he actually want to leave Brentford? Honestly, I am not sure. It is a fantastic club, and if you take away things like money and status, Brentford might just be the best club to play for in the world."
