Have you ever had a dream of yourself standing on Wimbledon's Centre Court, celebrating a match point or hitting an ace on Roger Federer? Probably a lot of tennis fans have, but how confident are that you would have anything to celebrate against a professional tennis player?
AceOdds ran a survey asking more than 2,000 tennis fans a bunch of questions related to tennis and their self-belief in their own ability.
Believing in your own abilities is normally a good thing, but can it come to a point where that self-belief becomes delusional? Well, that´s up to you to decide, but it´s safe to say that tennis fans generally have a very high belief in their own abilities based on these results.
62% of tennis fans believe they could win at least a game against a professional. A whole game! That’s a minimum of four points against a professional tennis player.
What caught our attention was that from our survey, women seem to have more trust in their qualities on the court than men, as only 57% of men believe they could win at least a game against a professional, while 67% of women believe they could win at least a game against a professional.
Less surprisingly, 77% of Gen Z believe they could win at least a game against a professional, so the youthful confidence is certainly there among that generation.
Sure, Novak Djokovic might not be at the same level as he once was. With that being said, the opinion among tennis fans who see him as the most overrated player in the current top 10 is still quite surprising, especially as he is viewed by many as the greatest of all time.
With his odds of winning Wimbledon currently listed at 5/1, making him the third favourite, a quick trip to our bet calculator page will tell you that perhaps Novak isn't as washed as some have been led to believe.
At least if you ask tennis fans, who have emphasised him as the easiest player to return. 10% had the British legend as the easiest player to return a serve from on the men´s side, while Katie Boulter took the lead with 16% on the women´s side. It doesn´t seem like Brits have a whole lot of confidence in their own superstars after all.
And yes, Andy Murray retired at the end of last season, but to see him that high might be surprising to a lot of people.
Since Wimbledon was first held in 1877, the “all-white rule” has stipulated that tennis clothing must be almost completely white from the moment a player steps onto the court. After 146 years, this requirement has now been relaxed, at least to some extent. Should Wimbledon fully remove the all-white dress code?
38% of tennis fans answered yes to this question.
Still, the majority would like to keep this tradition, but especially as the survey was run in the UK, this might be something to consider, with a whole 38% answering yes to abolish it.
Although the vast majority believe they serve slower, we still have some fans with very high confidence. Maybe Reilly Opelka or Giovanni Mpetshi-Perricard are up for a challenge?
Actually, only 14% believe the Italian’s ban should have been longer.
Carlos Alcaraz is the most coveted tennis player among fans, as 29% say they would like to date him. Jack Draper is among the favourites as well, as 22% would like to date him.
On the other hand, only 10% said they would like to date Tommy Paul and Ben Shelton.
Those were the players we decided to include in the survey.
38% picked Great Britain's tennis darling Emma Raducanu as the player they would like to date, while 7% answered they would like to date Iga Swiatek.
Methodology:
The research was carried out by One8Y and was conducted between June 18th 2025 and June 23rd 2025. The sample comprises 2,048 tennis fans across the United Kingdom.
