Data Analysis: The Most Foul-Mouthed & Negative Premier League Fandoms

Following the conclusion of the 2025–26 Premier League season, AceOdds conducted an analysis of the most foul-mouthed Premier League fandoms. Over 1.48 million comments from the subreddits of all 20 Premier League fandoms were analysed to find out which fans are the most polite and, on the contrary, which fandoms are the most foul-mouthed. Additionally, the analysis also uncovered which Premier League fandoms are the most positive and which fans are the most negative.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Wolverhampton Wanderers topped the list as the most foul-mouthed Premier League fandom, with 9.16% of their comments containing swear words — the highest rate across all 20 clubs analysed.
  • Tottenham Hotspur (9.03%) and West Ham United (8.88%) were not far behind, ranking second and third most foul-mouthed Premier League fandoms, respectively.
  • Fulham emerged as the most polite fandom in the Premier League, with only 4.31% of their comments including swear words, followed by AFC Bournemouth (4.41%) and Arsenal (5.28%).
  • Tottenham Hotspur supporters were found to be the most negative fandom, with 30.56% of their comments carrying a negative sentiment, slightly ahead of Newcastle United (29.15%) and Chelsea (29.00%).
  • AFC Bournemouth fans were the most positive in the division, with 58.54% of their comments categorised as positive — by a considerable margin over any other club, followed by Burnley (51.22%) and Brentford (50.85%).

THE MOST & LEAST FOUL-MOUTHED PREMIER LEAGUE FANDOMS

After the conclusion of the 2025–26 Premier League season, a sample of comments from the subreddits of all 20 Premier League fandoms was collected (tracking the last 12 months) and subsequently analysed to determine what percentage of their comments included swear words.

According to an analysis of 1.48 million comments across all Premier League fandoms, Wolverhampton Wanderers were found to be the most foul-mouthed fandom, with 9.16% of the comments on their subreddit including swear words. Tottenham Hotspur turned out to be the second most foul-mouthed Premier League fandom (9.03% of their comments included swear words), followed by West Ham United in third place with 8.88% of their comments including swear words.

On the other hand, Fulham were found to be the most polite fandom, with only 4.31% of their comments including swear words. The second and third most polite fandoms turned out to be AFC Bournemouth and Arsenal, respectively — only 4.41% of AFC Bournemouth’s comments included swear words, while only 5.28% of Arsenal’s comments included swear words.

THE MOST NEGATIVE & POSITIVE PREMIER LEAGUE FANDOMS

Additionally, the emotional tone of each comment was assessed and categorised as either negative, positive, or neutral. According to the results of the analysis of 1.48 million comments, Tottenham Hotspur turned out to be the most negative fandom, with 30.56% of their comments carrying a negative sentiment.

In second and third place as the most negative are Newcastle United and Chelsea, respectively. Newcastle United had 29.15% of negative comments, while 29.00% of Chelsea’s comments were categorised as negative.

On the other hand, the top three most positive Premier League fandoms turned out to be: AFC Bournemouth (58.54% of positive comments), Burnley (51.22% of positive comments) & Brentford (50.85% of positive comments), respectively.

METHODOLOGY

  • Collection period: last 12 months, concluding after the end of the 2025–26 Premier League season.
  • In total, 1,481,124 comments from 20 subreddits of the 2025–26 Premier League fandoms were analysed, looking for comments that contained swear words.
  • Each fandom was assigned a percentage value based on the proportion of comments on their subreddit that contained swear words.
  • Additionally, each comment was analysed using a sentiment analysis tool, VADER, which assigns a score and classifies it as positive, negative, or neutral; these results were then aggregated by club to calculate the proportion of each sentiment.
