NCAA Basketball is a College Basketball Tournment that began in 1939. The tourament was originally contested by 25 teams but has expanded over the years and since 2011 68 teams from Division I have competed to determine the National Champion.

Tournament Format

32 teams automatically qualify for the Tournament as Champions of their Conference, while the remaining 36 teams are determined by a selection committee.

There are 4 regions with at least 16 teams. The tournament is played as a single-elimination format culminating in regional semi-finals and finals.

The winners of the regional finals, the Final Four, proceed to the National Semi-Finals which are played on a Saturday, followed the National Finals on the Monday.

Tournament Winners

37 teams have won the tournament since 1939. 22 teams have won only once once.

UConn Huskies are the current Champions, with their 5th tournament win in 2023. UCLA have the most wins overall with 11 titles, winning their last tournament in 1995. They are followed by Kentucky with 8 wins and North Carolina with 6.

Betting on the NCAA

Predicting outcomes of the NCAA tournament has become very popular with free Bracket Pool contests taking place each year run by media outlets like ESPN, CBS Sports and Fox Sports.

In 2021 $3.1 billion in bets was placed on the NCAA Tournament, or March Madness. Bets can be placed on the outcomes of individual games and the overall winner, but some states do not allow Prop bets on College games.

The NCAA March Madness tournament will be available to watch in the US on CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV. Live streaming is also available through the NCAA March Madness app and you can log in using your TV provider. In Canada TSN is the official broadcaster and games can be watched with an online pass as well as via Cable TV.
