Betting returns aren't always obvious, even when you've been at it for years. Below are answers to the questions we get asked most often, and if your situation isn't covered, just enter your odds into the calculator above and it works everything out for you
Enter your stake, bet type, and odds into the AceOdds calculator and it shows your total return and profit instantly no sign-up needed and free to use. It works for every bet type from a simple single through to a Lucky 63 or Goliath, and handles each way terms, Rule 4 deductions, and dead heats automatically. If you're checking a Betfred Lucky 15 with a one-winner bonus, tick the bonus option and the calculator applies your bookmaker's specific terms before showing your return.
For a single bet, multiply your stake by the decimal odds and subtract the stake to get your profit. For example, a £10 bet at 5/1 (6.0 decimal) returns £60 in total £50 profit plus your £10 stake back. For multiple bets like doubles, trebles, or accumulators, the math gets more involved because the winnings from each leg roll into the next. That's where the calculator saves time: enter each selection's odds, set your stake, and the return is shown straight away without any manual calculation. Example: £10 at 5/1 → total return £60, profit £50. One more example: £10 double at 3/1 and 2/1 → total return £120, profit £110.
What your bet pays depends on three things: the odds, the stake, and the bet type. A £5 single at 4/1 pays £25 total (£20 profit + £5 stake). An each way bet on the same selection at 4/1 with 1/4 place terms costs £10 in total. If the horse wins you collect on both the win and place parts; if it places only, you receive the place portion at 1/1 (4 divided by 4). For anything more complex a Lucky 15, a patent, a full-cover accumulator use the calculator above and it breaks down your return for every possible outcome.
To check what you've won, enter the odds and stake for each selection into the calculator and set the results to "won" for the legs that came in. If some selections lost, mark those as "lost" the calculator will work out your exact return based on which parts of the bet settled as winners. For a settled each way bet, also check whether your bookmaker applied a Rule 4 deduction or dead heat, as these reduce the payout from the headline return.
UK bookmakers display odds in fractional format. To convert a fraction to a return, divide the left number by the right, then multiply by your stake, then add the stake back. So 7/2 on a £10 bet: 7 ÷ 2 = 3.5, then 3.5 × £10 = £35 profit, plus the £10 stake = £45 total return. In decimal format the return is even simpler: just multiply the decimal odds by the stake. Odds of 4.50 on a £10 bet returns £45. The AceOdds odds converter handles both formats and also shows the implied probability behind any price.
7/2 fractional = 4.50 decimal = 28.6% implied probability
Evens (1/1) = 2.0 decimal = 50% implied probability
5/2 = 3.50 decimal = 28.6% implied probability
Yes. Before digital tools, punters used printed 'ready reckoner' grids to manually multiply their odds and stakes. Our racing calculator acts as a modern, automated ready reckoner. It handles the complex maths for any horse racing bet in seconds. From simple Each Way singles to massive Lucky 63s - automatically factoring in Rule 4 deductions, dead heats, and specific bookmaker bonuses.
A Bet Builder (or same-game multi) allows you to combine several selections from a single match into one bet. As these events are often linked, such as backing a team to win and a specific player to score - the odds are not simply multiplied together like a standard accumulator. Instead, the bookmaker provides a unique, combined price for the whole scenario.
To calculate your exact returns using our tool, simply build the wager on your bookmaker's app to get the final combined odds. Next, select 'Single' from the Bet Type drop-down menu on the AceOdds calculator. Enter your final Bet Builder odds and your intended stake, and our calculator will instantly display your total outlay, exact profit, and total return.
Lucky 15 Calculator 4 selections, 15 bets. Enter your odds and stake to see your full return, including each way splits and the one-winner consolation bonus.
Each Way Calculator Works out your win and place returns separately, with place fraction and number of places you can set per selection.
