Football Clubs With the Most Pubs

The Premier League is as much about the action off the pitch as on it, with pre-match pints being a cherished ritual for many fans. But where should you head for the best ambiance and value? AceOdds has delved into this, revealing the top Premier League stadiums and nearby pubs for that perfect pre-game experience. Dive in to discover the champions of pre-match revelry!

Each week an average of 400,000 dedicated fans fill the Premier League stadiums having travelled hundreds of miles to support their team. For many of these fans, a key part of their weekly routine is a pre-match pint.

The pre-match pint is one of the best ways to revel in the fan atmosphere before the start of the game, allowing you time to debate the newly leaked team news, “reliably” sourced through a Twitter ITK. However, nothing sets a worse tone for the day than being presented with a flat and overpriced beer.

From dingy decor, overpriced pints and lack of venues, it’s evident that some stadium locations are better equipped than others. So, the team at AceOdds have done some digging to reveal which Premier League stadiums have the most-walkable and best-rated pubs within 15 minutes of the stadiums, so you know which away games to be circling in your diary.

Top 10 Stadiums with most pubs

St James’ Park has 262% more pubs nearby than any other stadium in the Premier League

Newcastle United’s St James’ Park stands alone as the Premier League’s best stadium to grab a pre-match pint. Geordies are blessed with a whopping 131 options to visit before or after a game, a number no other team can get close to. For those fans who are happy to up their step count for the day, there are also an additional 28 venues within a 20-minute radius of the ground or an additional 48 within a half an hour's walk. This is particularly good news for fans of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Brentford and Burnley who will be visiting St James’ before the end of September and will have one of the best away days at the start of the season.
In a very distant second place is Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium, where fans can visit 50 venues all within a 15-minute walk. However, if they’re happy to stretch their legs for an extra 15 mins their options broaden to 81 venues. If pre-season predictions are to come true, it could be the last time away fans make this trip for a season or two, so this could be another key game to mark in the calendar.
Newcomers Burnley has also been found to be a top destination for a pre-match pint. The Claret’s Turf Moor home is only 15 minutes from 36 venues. If you’re willing to walk a little further, you can expand your options to 50 venues in a half-hour radius (if that’s too far, there are 43 within 20 minutes of the ground).

Following in joint second place with an index score of 94 is The William Gunn near Nottingham Forest’s stadium as well as Liverpool's Taggy’s Bar and Beer Garden. Whilst The William Gun is rated slightly lower than Taggy’s, you’ll find pints 30p cheaper levelling the playing field. Either way, both of these venues are one of the best in the Premier League for a pre-match pint.

Of all the pubs analysed, four came out with a 4.9-star rating including Arsenal’s Junction Angel, Liverpool’s Taggy’s Bar, Newcastle United’s Katie O’Brien’s Irish Tavern and West Ham’s The Hawke Pub. However, if affordability is what you’re looking for, besides New Brew’ms £2.50 pints, the next best price on offer is at The Great Western in Wolverhampton serving £3.50 pints.

Meanwhile, despite excellent reviews, you won’t find the cheapest drinks near any of these London stadiums. Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Tottenham all rank as the top five most expensive pints, with The Fox and Pheasant in Chelsea coming in as the most expensive at £6.30.

Methodology

Using Google Maps data, AceOdds compared the address of each of the surrounding pubs with the stadium to calculate the walking distance to each pub. AceOdds then used a combination of Google Bard and Google Reviews to gather data on the public ratings of each pub, to rank each team’s top-rated pub within the parameters. Google Bard also used data from Restaurant Guru, Tripadvisor and OpenTable to provide the cost of a pint of beer in each of these pubs. Where data was unavailable, AceOdds contacted each pub directly to gather prices.
